Membership Update Spring 2021

Welcome, One and All,

That’s a welcome to a whopping total of 142,668 DMI Members! If anyone has been keeping track, that is an incredible 110,118 digital marketing professionals that have joined our community since we launched membership in July 2018.

We kicked 2021 off with a bang too. Lots of things have been happening in your membership world, here are just a recap of a few of the highlights:

We kicked off our DMITeamTalk series. These are 20 - 30 minute sessions where our DMI Tutor provides practical information, advice and guidance that you can utilize straight away. These are being streamed live on Facebook and YouTube. We’ve run four sessions to date and have lots more exciting topics to cover with you this year. You can catch our next one on Monday the 10th of May at 1 pm BST on the topic of Influencer Marketing.

We launched five fantastic POWER member benefits:

  1. The DMI Roundtable: In March we brought together a small group of POWER members that represent the diversity of our DMI community to discuss the topical subject of Diversity and Inclusion. Chaired by a subject matter expert, these community members discussed and learned from each other’s knowledge and experience. We’ll be running another session in June - on a different theme - so keep your eyes peeled for a notification.
  2. Course - ‘All Access’: For our Certified POWER members we are giving lifetime access to their program content and all subsequent updates.
  3. The Brand New Member Profile Builder: Giving POWER members the opportunity to turn their profile into their next opportunity. This is the ultimate personal branding tool, and you build and share with prospective employers, clients, and on social media.
  4. The DMI Jobs Board: We were delighted to recently announce the launch of the DMI Jobs Board so that you can find the best digital marketing jobs worldwide. You can select your chosen category, up to 15 job titles, and your location and we’ll help you connect your skills to the perfect opportunity. If you have a job opportunity you'd like to have featured on the jobs board, just reach out to membership@digitalmarketinginstitute.com.

Your Career and You

Given that a number of the activities that happened over the past few weeks have had a career focus, I thought it would be nice to make the heart of this membership update all about Your Career and You

When we think about careers - we may automatically think about it through the lens of a searching for a job or even a change in your career. However, career expands far beyond that. Your mindset can have a lot of influence on your career.

Over a year ago, when we were first introduced to pandemics and lockdowns, there seemed to be a commonality among working professionals that an increase in working hours and the appetite to take them on were present and correct, for a number of reasons: not least concerns about business and job security. Twelve months on, it feels like that appetite has waned. As professionals feel the effects of both lockdown and working-from-home fatigue. There are a number of reasons why you might be feeling a little unmotivated by work at the moment, and feeling a little drained as if you are running on empty.

One of the ways to take care of yourself is to be mindful of your mental health and your mindset. You may have heard of the term ‘growth mindset’. This starts with self-reflection. Firstly you need to reflect on your inner purpose both in your career and in your personal life - and then list these in order of priority to establish a renewed focus on balance and flexibility.

Once you know your purpose, your priorities, then it's time to instill some self-belief. When you are challenged in your work tasks or in a project - if your natural tendency is to feel like you can’t do it or that you want to give up or that you are destined to fail, then it's time to hit the reset button. You need to unshackle yourself from that mentality and change your internal mantra to I can and I will.

It’s not that you can’t - it's just that you have never encountered this challenge/task before and you need to recognize this as your opportunity to learn, solve and grow. By adopting a growth mindset you are changing the dial in the way that you view and approach life - seeing new or difficult situations as opportunities to learn, enhance your skills, and further your abilities. In doing so, you also gain a range of in-demand skills such as resilience, adaptability, creativity, and persistence.

These changes will leave you feeling positive, successful, and motivated. It will help you make more positive choices both personally and professionally and keep your mental health and attitude happy, healthy, and thriving.
